Q: is there any way to hold a Kindle on this?
A: I have the kindle keyboard and it will hold it. Paperbacks pose a problem because they won’t stay open but I use my kindle and hardback books without problems. 

Q: Will it hold a magazine open, or will the magazine fall back into the water?
A: the silver bar will hold it in place . Assuming it is a standard sized magazine, it would be taller than the bar and wider than it, so there would be 3 edges/pieces supporting it.
