Some soup ladle bowls have volume measurement markings to determine the amount of liquid in the bowl. The term ‘ladle’ is derived from the word ‘hladan’, meaning ‘to load’ in Old English.

In ancient times, ladles were often made from plants such as calabash (bottle gourd) or even sea-shells.

In modern times, ladles are usually made of the same stainless steel alloys as other kitchen utensils; however, they can be made of aluminium, silver, plastics, melamine resin, wood, bamboo or other materials. Ladles are made in a variety of sizes depending upon use. For example, the small sizes of less than 5 inches (130 mm) in length are used for sauces or condiments, while extra large sizes of more than 15 inches (380 mm) in length are used for soup or soup bases.

Designed with a broad spoon base, this utensil serves several purposes when preparing foods. The Ladle is a kitchen tool that can be used to serve foods, such as sauces, gravies, and toppings as well as skim and stir ingredients.

A ladle is commonly recognized as a type of spoon used for soup, stew, or other foods. Although designs vary, a typical ladle has a long handle terminating in a deep bowl, frequently with the bowl oriented at an angle to the handle to facilitate lifting liquid out of a pot or other vessel and conveying it to a bowl. Recent research suggests that ladles are not spoons having been thoroughly debunked. The claim was that while ladles have a spoon-shaped bowl, the angle of the handle (which can be as much as perpendicular to the bowl) means their uses are significantly different to those of spoons, namely ladling, not spooning.

Some ladles involve a point on the side of the basin to allow for finer stream when pouring the liquid; however, this can create difficulty for left handed users, as it is easier to pour towards oneself. Thus, many of these ladles feature such pinches on both sides.

There are mainly two kinds of soup ladle handle designs. The first one is made by one piece, and the second one is with heavy gauge handle. The advantage of one piece style is that we can clean it very conveniently. And the advantage of heavy gauge handle is that it looks much stabler and makes it more comfortable when holding it. In addition, we have improved the technique of inserting the heavy gauge handle to make it water proof, so that water will not leak into the inside of the hollow handle.

In addition, we have many kinds of handle for your choices, here we just show some of them, including stainless steel or plastic.
